Easy pen work designs

Here are are some easy pen work designs that I have done.  They are simple designs and very easy for any inexperienced porcelain painter to do.  The design is first penned on and then fired.  After this colour is applied to the design.

On the edge of this plate with the Grape Design, I applied colour to the outer rim and then using a rubber stamp, I pressed the clean dry stamp onto the wet paint to leave an imprint of the leaf.  I found that the stamp needs to be wiped clean of any excess paint that it collected after each stamping.  It is best to practise this process on a tile first to get the feel of how to do it.

I am trying to find a pen for painting on china/porcelain that does not fire out. Can you help me on this?

    Thank you,
    Trish Robbins

    • Sorry Trish, I do not know of a pen that can be used on China/porcelain that does not fire out. For all my pen work I mix the porcelain powder paints with pen oil and use a Hunt 107 nib to pen with. I do not pen with the water based medium as I find I do not have the success with getting fine lines with it, therefore I prefer the pen oil.

Oh! what a pity! I can read your text, but I can’t see any picture…. I have a iPad.

    • Sorry Corinne, but I had not put any photos up yet. They are there now, so please have a look and let me know what you think of my website.

The roses are a good idea for a quick réalisation. And I love the idea of using stamps… I’ve got to try!…

      • Yes Corinne, this was a very quick and easy design, and one that any beginner could do.
The ideal for the stamped border design on the grape plate, came about from the fact that the border edge just need something else, so I decided to give this a try and it worked. Do try it.
Please continue coming back to my website as I intend adding more of my work to it.
